Cloud computing is one of the emerging technologies expected to reach ~$300 billion this year. Cloud computing delivers computing
solutions to access data, store data and networking via the internet without having to store the data at your end (like in a hard drive). It provides revolutionary solutions to businesses and individuals and this space is growing leaps and bounds. One million jobs will be avail able in India alone by 2022 which indicates huge demand of specialized skills in cloud computing. Skills like Amazon ‘Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform, or Azure are essential in this arena. Job roles like Cloud Consultant, Cloud Engineer, Cloud Architects are highly in demand. 

Is it a Secure Career?

Cloud computing is strong and expansive, and it will continue to grow and give many benefits in the future since it is incredibly cost effective, and businesses can use it to grow. Thus Cloud computing careers have a bright future ahead, with benefits for both the host and the customer. Although it’s important to remember that the company’s owner should be up to date on the latest developments in cloud technology.

A career as a Cloud Engineer

Cloud engineer is a beginner-friendly role that mainly revolves around being a cloud-focused software engineer.

They work mostly on writing code, writing and testing new features, shipping code for deployment, building mobile, web applications and API, and the day-to-day maintenance of on-going software projects.

Technical skills required:

You need all the software engineering skills plus familiarity with at least one cloud plat form, preferably the one the target company uses. To be more specific, Cloud Academy outlines them as:
•Front-end: HTML, CSS. JavaScript, Node.js, Python, and Ruby
•Backend: Golang, Node.js, Python, Ruby
•Test-driven development, unit testing, and integration testing
•Databases (both Relational and NoSQL)
•Basic skills in software deployment
•Linux internals, Servers, and cloud application development

Don’t be overwhelmed with all the skills; this is after research of multiple companies. Ideally, you’d need only one or two languages specific to the target company.

Relevant certifications

Certifications are popular in cloud computing and certainly showcases your cloud skills to the potential employer.
•Microsoft Azure: Certified Developer Associate
•Amazon Web Services: Certified Developer Associate
•Google Cloud Platform: Professional Cloud Developer
You don’t have to get yourself certified in all 3; one of them would give you some much needed credibility.
